Agility’s sustainable solutions awarded in Sweden

Agility was presented with the regional ‘Lift of the Year’ (Arets Lyft) award at the Swedish Trade and Industry gala held in Karlskrona, Sweden. The award bestowed by the Transport Council of Skane and Blekinge counties, was presented by Council member and Governor of Blekinge County, Gunvor Engstrom.

The ‘Lift of the Year’ title is awarded to a player from the transport sector that has created the most intelligent and eco-efficient transport solution.  “Agility has demonstrated that combined transport can also be cost-effective for businesses. A very good example which we hope more companies can emulate.” said Governor Engstrom.

In Sweden, Agility has set up six different intermodal transportation solutions to and from the country. One example is the route Gävle to Milan where, in Gävle, goods are loaded on to trailers which are then put on trains, the train then continues to Trelleborg in the south of Sweden where it is lifted onto a ferry to Travemünde, Germany and thence by train to Italy – Novara and Verona. The final stretch goes by road to Milan. This method makes it possible to load 28 tons instead of 24 tons that are otherwise the maximum weight for road transportation.

The Transport Council Skane & Blekinge said in a statement: “Agility in its quest to offer sustainable solutions, has shown great creativity and ability for a number of customers with road transportation, in implement multimodal solutions using truck, rail and sea transportation. The changes have led to significantly lower transport costs and a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.”

Speaking about the award Mats Nordin, CEO of Agility Sweden and the Nordic countries said, “We are pleased and proud to win this award and see the attention it has garnered. We have demonstrated that we can lower both the customer’s and our own costs through the use of new transport solutions. This makes the customer, us and the environment all winners.”
