Agility Walks for the World Food Programme

Imagine that every step you take throughout your day helps feed a hungry child. Agility employees across the United States don't have to imagine it — they did it.

As part of Agility CSR's AFFECT! and community health initiatives, Agility US employees formed teams of four people or more and competed to walk the most miles in a six-week period. The team that walked the farthest, as measured by pedometers supplied by the Americas HR team, had its footsteps matched by the Corporate Social Responsibility Program with a donation to the World Food Programme: one dollar per mile, with a goal of walking 5000 miles. The resulting donation will feed 200 children for a year through a World Food Program feeding program.

The Walking Warriors from Agility's Santa Ana office beat out 68 other teams in the Agility Walks campaign, easily exceeding the 5,000-mile goal. The winners also received special edition Project Red iPods for their efforts. Even their prize supports charity; proceeds from the sale of Project Red items go directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

Agility Walks was a success for every participant in terms of community and fitness, though, said Joanne Ziegler, Director of U.S. Benefits and Wellness: “We had teams getting together outside of work to play golf, basketball and other sports, which they said were spurred by this challenge.”
