Donating to a Kid's Haven

In 1992 a social worker named Moira Simpson created a safe haven for street children in South Africa. Initially operating out of an abandoned hospital, she named her space “Kid’s Haven.” Simpson has since developed a system whereby these children are initially placed in a downtown shelter and are provided food, clothing, and an education. Once the children have become accustomed to a more normal daily routine (sometimes taking months to establish) they are given the opportunity to live in a small cluster of homes called “the village.” Simpson has done an amazing job of providing these children with a home and hope for the future. Students who have passed through her care are now attending college and have plans for future careers.

David Ollard is a project manager with Agility in Orange County, California and his wife Jane is the School Guidance Counselor at Tuffree Middle School in Placentia, California. Jane put together local fundraisers and donation efforts to support Kid's Haven, while David assisted with the transportation challenge. Tuffree Middle School collected funds and more than 70 bags of clothing to donate to the charity. Students also made holiday cards for the children and donated science project kits. Teachers from the school reached out by offering educational support and lesson plans. Four students of El Dorado High School in Placentia held a fundraiser, performing in a trombone quartet during the Holiday Season. Agility generously facilitated the transportation of all the clothing and resources to the children of Kid’s Haven, South Africa.
