When students returned this fall to Phan Luong Truc Primary School on the outskirts of Ho Chih Minh City, they discovered their run-down schoolhouse had been transformed into a brighter, more welcoming place to learn — thanks to 15 Agility Vietnam employees.
Back in January 2009, a team taking part in Agility Vietnam's CSR program drove 200kms to bring the school new uniforms, educational supplies, food, and a much-needed first aid kit. During their visit, they also talked to students about the value of staying in school and focusing on their studies. As they toured the grounds, though, they realized the building's condition didn't reflect the importance of the learning going on inside.
As a result, the Agility Vietnam employees organized a campaign to refurbish the school. Over the next seven months, they arranged to have the playground paved and landscaped, the walls painted, the corridors tiled, and electricity and ceiling fans installed throughout the building. On August 17, 2009, the improved Phan Luong Truc Primary School reopened for the new school year, ready to give new and returning students the surroundings they need to support their education.
"We have established a relationship with the school that we hope will continue in the future," said Michael Deisemann, General Director of Agility Vietnam. "Our staff is dedicated to helping wherever possible, and we are proud to help in any way we can."
