Corporate Social Responsibility
Potatoes, potatoes and more potatoes delivered to a slum in Kenya

What do you do when a huge delivery of potatoes doesn’t match Agility’s quality standards? Perry Hill, Country Manager Agility Kenya, had to make a quick decision when he found himself looking at 1700 kilos potatoes that were too small to be delivered to the customer.

There was absolutely no option of wasting such a huge quantity of food. Given Agility’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility the solution was simple. Hill reached out to the Program Manager of “100% to the Children”, a non-profit organization that supports initiatives for children in developing countries. A couple of hours after they accepted, the potatoes left the Agility warehouse and were delivered to Makande, a low-income area on the outskirts of Mombasa, were the “100% to the Children” support the community based project “Tom Mboya Angels”.

Paul Abisa who heads the project gathered together a group of volunteers and packages the potatoes into 300 bags of five kilograms each. These were then handed over to the different families.

It was amazing to see how fast so many potatoes found new homes. Within an hour all of the potatoes were gone and all of our children and families in the Tom Mboya Angels project went home happy with food for the whole family.
