Popular all over the world, football (also known as soccer some countries) is played in over 200 countries by children of all ages. Most of its popularity comes from the fact that the game can be played anywhere by just kicking around a ball. The rest of its popularity comes from the love of the game.
That’s the idea behind the Great Football Giveaway. A non-profit based organization out of the UK states that the aim of the Giveaway is to use the power of the sport as a way to do good. Their first project distributed footballs to children in Malawi in 2006. In 2007, two Agility offices became involved to help transport footballs to Angola.
Together, Agility Exeter (UK) and Agility Valencia (Spain) bought the organization a 20 foot sea container to transport the equipment. The offices also helped organize all the freight movement from the UK to Angola. In total, over 3,000 footballs were delivered to children in about 100 schools. “The more we traveled into the heart of Angola,” the organization said, “the more we found the simple act of randomly handing out footballs was greatly appreciated.”
In 2008, Agility continued its support of the Great Football Giveaway by sponsoring the movement of a container of footballs to Kampala, Uganda.
