Supply Chain Customization for a Better Flow of Pharma Products in Hungary

The Kedrion Group is a leading producer and worldwide retailer of medical products made from human blood plasma. The company has its headquarters in Italy and operates a production and packaging facility in Hungary, located east from Budapest. The facility is operated with highest quality standards in the pharmaceutical industry. Kedrion is a partner of the National Health Service for the production of plasma-derived medicinal products in Italy.

The Customer’s Challenge

Kedrion needed a reliable logistics partner who could offer storage and warehousing facilities with the necessary security and quality certificates for high value pharmaceutical product storage including temperature and humidity controlled storage rooms, RF (Radio Frequency) scanning and stock management systems to be linked to SAP as well as the ability to transport products between the production facilities and the warehouse with dedicated temperature controlled trucks.

Agility’s Solution

The Agility solution for Kedrion included an innovative, tailored and integrated approach, providing a high quality combination of warehousing, new technology and state of the art security solutions. The Agility team built a sample taking room for product inspections as well as a dedicated warehouse operation in a separated, temperature and humidity controlled 1000 sqm area (2-8 Celsius and 15-25 Celsius rooms) with cooling and heating engines, temperature and humidity control system, specialized racking and shelves as well as a customized warehouse management system.

Agility also created Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that cover all related warehousing and delivery processes to the highest standards in the pharmaceutical industry and that received approval and recognition from the National Institute for Pharmacy (NIP) in Hungary.

From a security perspective, Agility offered its customer an innovative TAPA A+ approved system with 24/7/365 operations, remote alarm monitoring, electric access control to the pharmacy area as well as continuous CCTV coverage. Agility further customized the security system by modifying the racking system by creating lockable cages. From a warehouse management point of view, Agility introduced a pallet ID tracking system with RF scanners that allowed for efficient management of products and storage space. The team also customized the warehouse management system to generate daily reports of receipts, shipments and inventory levels. And last but not least we have set up a dedicated temperature controlled shuttle service from Kedrion’s production site to the Agility warehouse and vice versa.
