Grupo Modelo is the leading brewery in Mexico. Grupo Modelo brews and distributes twelve brands, including Corona Extra, Modelo Especial, Victoria, Pacífico and Negra Modelo. The brewery exports five brands to over 159 countries and imports Anheuser-Busch products in Mexico, including Budweiser, Bud Light and O´Doul’s, along with the Chinese beer, Tsingtao and Danish Carlsberg. Grupo Modelo Europa in Madrid serves the European Market.

The Customer’s Challenge

Grupo Modelo Europa asked Agility Spain to quickly provide a solution for their poorly performing supply chain in Spain. According to the original distribution plan, Grupo Modelo had a single distribution centre in Spain that was too far from most customers. This caused delays and was not efficient in costs. We were challenged to improve this situation as fast as possible.

That, in combination with our network of freight forwarding products, specialty businesses and logistics expertise, created a solution that answered the requirements of Grupo Modelo. Designing a whole distribution solution in a short time frame required a Logistics industry specialist with an international network, the appropriate storage and distribution facilities, and visibility throughout the supply chain.

In only three weeks, the Agility team designed a decentralized distribution system, built two distribution centers, enforced a new supply route and placed dedicated support teams in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. Since then we have kept up the service and gotten their product placed in the market with greater flexibility by using an additional port of entry in Spain, opening additional distribution centers in Barcelona and Valencia, creating flexibility in stock levels and stock security backups to guarantee the supply during peak seasons, local strikes and high demand periods.
