Kuwait: Tarek Sultan, the Chairman and Managing Director of Agility, was the Co-Chair of the World Economic Forum on East Asia meeting held in Seoul last week. The meeting gathered together Asian and Global political and business leaders to discuss topics related to the economic downturn, trade relations and green technology.

“Most business and political leaders are focused on the current economic crisis but it also important that we can discuss shaping the post-crisis world and how we plan for the recovery,” he said.

“In the logistics sector Agility is investing in building our network to increase our presence and also on taking advantage of intra-regional trade flows,” said Sultan, who is also Chair of the Logistics committee of the Forum.

During the World Economic Event, which ran from June 18-19, Sultan joined discussions on Asia and the Green Environment, Business Opportunities During the Economic Downturn, and the Next Steps for Asia in Global Redesign, among others.

Commenting on environmental initiatives in Asia, Sultan noted that “many countries in Asia are making major investments into building and promoting environmental initiatives, which could lead to developing new technologies, generate new jobs, and lead to healthier living environments. It is important that we allow for the creation of new ideas and initiatives to be shared amongst the global community.”

Also for discussion during the World Economic Forum event was the subject of the Next Steps for Asia in Global Redesign where Sultan stressed the “importance of education and skills-training to prepare local talent for the upturn.”

The World Economic Forum on East Asia was closed with a dinner hosted by the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Myung-bak, where Sultan had a private meeting with the President and other Co-Chairs of the Summit.
