Basel: New logistics center opened in Budapest.

Agility continues to expand rapidly its position in the Central and Eastern European markets. In October, Agility has officially inaugurated new facilities at its brand new logistics center in Budapest. The opening of the center is a further milestone in Agility’s expansion into the Central and Eastern European markets, which has lately seen the start of operations in Austria, Slovenia and Poland.

“Our new logistics center provides customers with a unique platform and the latest in terms of comprehensive logistics services”, says Keith Mahoney, General Manager of Agility Hungary. “With its well-developed road network and central position within the Eastern European region, Hungary is ideally located for cross border distribution.”

Boosting especially the manufacturing trade and the export industry, Hungary is tightly embedded in the pan-European business community. The country, which is an important gateway between Eastern and Western Europe, also has a great number of highly educated, skilled and motivated individuals. “Many automotive companies have set up their manufacturing sites in Hungary, an industry in which Agility is very well established”, comments Francesco Motka, Managing Director of Agility’s Area East. “The pharmaceutical and the high-tech sectors also clearly belong to our focus industries.”

This custom built facility is ideally situated in the Budapest Intermodal Logistics Center (BILK), which is the most modern logistics project of Hungary and CEE. The site is uniquely located near all significant transportation junctions and facilities. It is directly linked to the new Budapest M0 ring motorway, as well as connected to the MÁV (Hungarian State Railways) central container railway terminal, where 80% of the Hungarian container traffic is handled. Also nearby are connections to major air (Ferihegy Airport) and waterway (Freeport of Budapest-Csepel) infrastructures, making it an ideal location for Agility’s new logistics center.

Agility’s modern and high security logistics center covers 15’000 sqm of warehouse space, consisting of 22’000 pallet positions with narrow and normal aisle racking and the latest in terms of material handling equipment and warehouse management technology. In addition, there are 850sqm dedicated to value added operations which today range from light assembly services to RMO (repair, maintenance & overhaul) operations, fully ESD (electrostatic discharge) protected and equipped as per the highest requirements. The site’s security systems and procedures are the highest in our industry, including 24/7/365 manned coverage, remote alarm monitoring, electronic access control and digital CCTV. There is also an on-site customs office, speeding up custom clearance procedures and inspections.
