Agility, a leading global logistics provider, promotes a culture of giving back to the communities in which our employees live and work. In keeping with this culture, the company marked the month of Ramadan in Kuwait by distributing Iftaar meals in Sulaibiya. Two hundred meal packets are distributed daily to fasting laborers and workers in the area. Agility employees volunteer with the logistics of the distribution.
This is the second year that Agility has participated in Ramadan activities. Last year, the company offered Iftaar meals to area workers in a tent that also catered around 6,000 meals during the whole month.
Ali Mikail, senior vice president, Kuwait & Levant, Global Integrated Logistics at Agility said, “Ramadan is a month that promotes the spirit of sharing with those who are less privileged. At Agility, we take our corporate social responsibility very seriously. Distributing meals to these laborers is just a small way of contributing to our communities. By providing these basic Iftaar meals, we ensure that workers break their fast in a more healthy and nutritious way.”
Every year mosques in Kuwait provide Iftaar meals donated by companies or individuals in the vicinity and all are welcome to attend. Following the meals, there is a huge volume of paper, plastic and metal trash, including plates, cups, spoons, beverage cans, etc. dumped into trash bins. These eventually get dumped into a landfill somewhere in Kuwait.
This year Agility, a strong advocate of environmental issues, decided to organize a ‘green’ approach. The company set-up recycling stations at six mosques in the Ahmadi area. After the Iftaar meal every day, Agility employees ensure all the waste generated is segregated into paper, plastic and metal and sent for recycling. The employee volunteers coupled with the recycling stations will also develop environmental awareness among residents in these areas.
Tarek Sultan, Agility’s chairman and managing director said, “This year we decided to do more than just distribute meals during Ramadan. Environmental awareness is a growing need in Kuwait and we decided to do our part to promote this among the residents in Kuwait.”
This recycling initiative follows a successful environmental awareness campaign launched at the Al Kout Beach in Fahaheel earlier this year. A part of Agility’s Earth Day activities, the environmental initiatives also included a beach clean-up, in-house recycling, and carpooling.
