PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Agility, a leading global logistics provider, today announced the official commencement of operations in Cambodia with the opening of an office in Phnom Penh. The opening supports Agility’s network growth strategy and further strengthens its operations in Indochina.
Agility Cambodia will offer services to both locally-based and network customers operating in Cambodia, with a range of air freight, sea freight, customs clearance, warehousing and local distribution solutions. A cross border trucking service initially connecting Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) to Phnom Penh (PNH) and Bangkok (Thailand) to Phnom Penh will be available, followed by services linking South China and Vietnam.
Agility Cambodia will also focus on other key sectors including Project Logistics in the oil and gas sector and Fairs and Events.
“Agility has a great opportunity to develop the Cambodian market as demand is growing for a broad range of freight and logistics services. We are seeing a significant increase in international trade from Cambodia to the U.S. and Europe, as well as to the rest of Asia. We have also seen an increase in cross border trade within Indochina and between ASEAN countries,” said Mike Gildea, Agility’s CEO of South East Asia.
Cambodia has a population of more than 14 million and imports most of its retail / FMCG / construction material from Vietnam and Thailand. The clothing and garment sector is important in the country and Cambodia exported 60% of its textile production to the U.S. market and 30% to the EU market in 2009, and this sector is still growing quickly.
To support its growth in Cambodia, Agility has appointed Phang Sovong as general manager, Cambodia.
