Kuwait: 5000 trees to be planted as a part of the launch.

Agility today launched its global “Green Steps” environmental campaign at their Kuwait head offices in Sulaibiya. The first project of this campaign is the planting of 5000 trees around the Agility facilities in Sulaibiya and Doha. Tarek Sultan, Chairman and Managing Director planted the first tree to inaugurate the campaign.

In his opening address, Sultan said: “Today marks a special day for us here at Agility, as we launch out ‘Green Steps’ campaign. At Agility, we have always been conscious of our social responsibilities and have embarked on various initiatives to ‘give back’ to the communities that we live and work in. As a logistics business we also realize extent of our contributions to carbon emissions and industrial waste and have worked consciously to adopt more environmental friendly practices in our supply chain operations. The planting of the first tree is a symbol of our commitment towards environmental issues such as climate change and energy conservation.”

The tree planting project follows a successful recycling program that Agility runs in its Kuwait offices. Comprising of different phases and covering different locations around Agility, the tree planting project is led by Eng. Ebrahim Saud Al Faris, the Maintenance Manager for Agility in Kuwait. Other senior executives and employees from Agility also attended the event as a mark of support to the ‘Green Steps’ project.

To spread environmental awareness around their respective offices, every employee walked away with a potted plant for their offices.

Mariam Al Foudery, VP of Enterprise Communications and CSR at Agility commented “At Agility we take our corporate social responsibility very seriously. We have participated in numerous community activities worldwide which range from helping develop young leaders in Kuwait to mobilizing Logistics Emergency Teams that supported relief aid when a cyclone hit Myanmar. In the last year, we have focused on environmental issues and our ‘Green Steps’ campaign is an effort to build global awareness within our organization.”

As a key player in the logistics industry, Agility has undertaken a number of programs in the interest of environmental preservation and awareness. By introducing energy saving initiatives in the Kuwait facilities, the company has reduced its consumption by 30%. They are also one of 100 signatories of the World Economic Forum’s Climate Change initiative, which was presented to the leaders of the G8 last year.

It is also worth mentioning that Agility holds an Environmental Management Certification from the Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance in Dubai (LRQA), showing strong conformity to the International Standard ISO 14001:2004 in all its policies, procedures, and programs related to the environmental protection.

Agility also encourages customers to measure their impact on the environment, and help them adopt environmentally responsible policies. In New Zealand, Agility was the first company to get a CarbonZero certification and Agility New Zealand now runs carbon free operations.

Since the launch of their CSR division in 2006, Agility has carried out 120 community projects, in over 40 countries reaching 286,000 people worldwide.
