Partners with Metal & Recycling Company (MRC) and National Aviation Services (NAS) on beach cleanup and recycling campaign

As a part of Earth Day activities, Agility, a leader in global logistics, has recently organized environmental cleanups and an ongoing recycling awareness campaign at Al Kout beach. For the past three years, Agility employees in Kuwait have participated in similar campaigns to commemorate the international Earth Day.  Each year, Agility employees join hands to fulfill their commitment to giving back to the local community.

For Earth Day 2010, Agility offices in Kuwait held a whole month of activities that included not just a beach cleanup but also a carpool week, where employees commuted to the office with colleagues, and a residential recycling campaign to raise awareness among the general public on the importance and impact of recycling.

On April 17, around 100 Agility employees and their families gathered at a beach on Blajat Street in Salmiya early in the morning to do their bit for the environment.  As a result of the beach cleanup, non-biodegradable material, which included leftovers from BBQs and meals, such as aluminum foil and wrappers, Styrofoam containers, plastic bottles and toys, cigarette butts, ropes, etc. were removed from the beach.  All recyclable material was segregated and collected by the Metal & Recycling Company (MRC), a leading provider of waste management services, for processing.

Although the day started off with a horrible “Sarayat” storm, with winds reaching up to 120km per hour, the spirit of all those involved refused to be washed away by the rain. All the items collected were dutifully recorded to measure the environmental impact. This data will be provided to an international marine conservation organization for research purposes.

In addition to the Blajat Beach Cleanup, Agility DDKS lead an environmental awareness campaign at Al Kout beach aimed at raising awareness amongst the general public on the importance of recycling.  Four recycling stations, each containing a place for plastic, paper and aluminum, were placed along the beach. Agility employees and their families came out on s Saturday, to place these recycling stations along with two permanent signs titled ‘Earth Day, Every Day’ outlining tips on how to recycle and keep Kuwait clean. These activities also saw the participation of members of National Aviation Services (NAS) and the Metal & Recycling Company (MRC).

Globally, Agility employees organized environmental activities including tree planting and beach cleanups in Pakistan, Indonesia, Slovenia, Italy, Germany and the US.

Mariam Al Foudery, Vice President – Enterprise Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility said: “It’s great to note that more than 1000 Agility employees participated in our Earth Day programs around the world. By participating in such voluntary activities, our employees demonstrate their commitment to the communities that we live and work in which is the basis of our Community Volunteer program. We look forward to doing many more such activities that increase environmental awareness in Kuwait.”
