Employees plant over 800 trees at Agility offices in Kuwait
Kuwait - Last week, Agility employees marked international Earth Day by planting over 800 trees across three offices in Kuwait. 1000 employees gathered across Agility offices in Sulaibiya, Mina Abdullah and Doha to commemorate the event that was aimed at promoting environmental awareness around the risks of carbon emissions.
The initiatives were a part of Agility’s broader Green Steps Campaign, launched in November 2008. The campaign was implemented by Agility to build environmental commitment and responsibility among its employees. During the launch of the campaign Agility committed to planting 5,000 trees throughout Kuwait in one year. The Earth Day event was the second phase of this year-long program.
Halima Al Sharqawi, from Agility who participated in the event commented: “I know how Earth Day is important globally and am excited to be a part of it locally. I am glad I work for a company that is so committed to giving back to the environment as a part of its social responsibility.”
Agility also hosted lectures for its employees, stressing the importance of conserving environmental resources and observing eco-friendly practices at home and at the office.
These activities are a part of Agility’s ongoing environmental efforts. The company has run a number of initiatives, from working with their customers to running recycling programs. In 2008, Agility worked with a leading customer to reduce packaging waste and reduced consumption by 5.5 million pounds of plastic per year, saving 13,028 barrels of oil. Agility’s Kuwait warehouse operations initiated a program to recycle paper, plastic, metal, packaging and other materials, taking 110 tons of carbon out of the air.
Mariam Al Foudery, VP – Enterprise Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at Agility explained: "At Agility we believe in giving back to the community. With the various environmental issues affecting our planet, our future generations face a big risk. We strongly feel that it is our responsibility today to ensure the safety of future generations. Our Green Steps initiatives and overall environmental strategy are an extension of our commitment to the world in which we live and do business .”
