On October 1, Agility Switzerland is opening its newly rented logistics center in St. Louis on the French side of the border near Basel. The facility provides an attractive platform for Swiss exporters looking to ship goods to other European countries. The Agility warehouse makes it possible for exporting Swiss firms to make use of intra-EU shipments without having to maintain their own branch in an EU state. The goods destined for the EU are consolidated and transferred to the central European warehouse, where they clear customs before being delivered to any final recipient within the EU VAT-free. Customers benefit from faster workflows and lower costs for their EU shipments.
The facility in St. Louis has a total of 9,000 square meters of floor space, including around 3,900 square meters for pallet storage and 4,900 square meters for pick and pack activities. In addition to various logistics activities, Agility provides land transport services to and from all the major centers in Europe as well as global sea and air freight services.
The new facility in St. Louis will replace the previous central EU warehouse which Agility operated in Bartenheim, France, for almost twenty years. In order to accommodate further expansion, Agility has secured a pre-emptive right to purchase the building land adjacent to the St. Louis facility.
“Our new logistics center in St. Louis offers state-of-the-art infrastructure and enough capacity to handle the increasing demand for imports and exports with the EU, which is Switzerland’s biggest trading partner,” said Thomas Jaeger, logistics manager Area West for Agility. “Our direct connection to the French and Swiss customs system, coupled with our experience in the design of bespoke logistics concepts for our customers, enables us to guarantee substantially lower costs at the same time as optimizing the supply chain. Famous brands including BMC, Columbia Sportswear, Time/System and Advance use Agility to handle their intra-European shipments and will utilize our central warehouse in St. Louis for this purpose in the future.”
